1. Function of the ‘raccoon’ in
constructing the plot of Richard Ford’s on “Under the Radar” as cause of climax
while Steven (husband of Marjorie) is slap Marjorie when they are fight ‘the
raccoon’ always there is. Steven and Marjorie who want to go their destination.
They have a conflict one of them. The raccoon suddenly rise when Steven and
Marjorie fighting in car and the raccoon nearly with their car. However, while
Steven and Marjorie outside of their car and they are not talk any words one of
them. They are silent. However, Marjorie says something to Steven but Steven
just said “No” for Marjorie’s question. Steven slaps Marjorie after that. I
think Steven was angry because ‘the raccoon’ always there is in front of them
when they have a conflict.
2. The Older Waiter considered café as a
pleasant place for him because he feels only café, which become his friend now.
I know that in the text The Older Waiter is lonely, not same with The Young
Waiter. The Older Waiter has not family.
He is a lonely. He has café as his friends. Place to get happiness and do
something for him. Café is his life (in my opinion). Even, The Older Waiter is
not happy while he go to home after he finished his job at café, because he has
not family. However, The Young Waiter has family. He has a wife at home. While
he has finished his jobs, he can go to home with smile and happiness, because
he will meet with his wife at home. However, The Young Waiter is not same with
The Older Waiter who loves with café. The Young Waiter hate with café that to
be place of his jobs.
In this story, The Older Waiter feels same with The Old Man because he
has the same behavior. All right, he has same characteristic that behavior in
habit, drunk, lonely, love with café, and age. It a reason why The Older Waiter
allowing The Old Man although he is not pay for his drunk.
3. Metaphors are comparison between two things
that have a different by directly.
a. My Love and my Faith, I think this a
contradiction of the real meaning of My Love and my faith.
b. With heaven above, and Faith below, I will
yet stand firm against the devil, define of two things that different “above
and below”
c. There may be a devilish Indian behind every
tree, define two things that has different “devil and human”
Symbols are icon for substitution of
something as symbolic of it.
a. Poor little faith, this as symbol for
someone who little of knowledge about religion
b. Goodman Brown, this as symbol for the
writer
c. Dearest Heart, this is symbol for someone
is very lovely
d. Melancholy air, this is symbol to define
about situation of heart
e. Thy prayers, this is symbol for community
who has faith
f. Dark figure, this is symbol for chief of
community’s religion
4. Yes, I think there is gender bias the following
narrative of John Steinbeck’s “The Chrysanthemums”. This story talks about
Elisa, Henry and Thinker. Elisa is a wife of Henry. Henry is a husband of
Elisa. Thinker is the third person whom to be adoration of Elisa because she
never get something that to be her needed as a wife from Henry. In this story
henry always, busy with his jobs and other activities. Henry is someone who
will never able to say something that good something for his wife. Henry is not
recognize anything of his wife, include of everything that Elisa does. Elisa
has a conflict in herself. Elisa always does anything because she feels bored
just stay at home. Elisa cannot to go from home because henry is not allowing
Elisa to does. Elisa always gets bad something because of her husband do. Elisa
never is appreciating from her husband of anything she does. Automatically is a
problem for herself, for her life. Because of that Elisa has stressed and any
problems. Elisa cannot do anything because whatever she does, she never get
recognizing of her husband. Elisa always wrong in front of Henry. It is a
reason why Elisa loves to Thinker.
In this story has Gender Bias. It is Henry’s characters, which never
recognize his wife, and Henry only subjected his wife just to be a wife. Henry
never subjected his wife to be a girl. A girl whom need loves, caress, need
good words from her husband. However, Elisa never gets it.
5. The Boarding House by James Joyce’s and
The Storm by Kate Chopin’s are talks about conflict of sexuality. In story of
The Boarding House a conflict of sexuality rise because Polly’s daily
activities, which always clean rooms of consumer at the boarding house.
However, in story if The Storm a conflict of sexuality rises because of the
storm and it is not intentionally. I think both of them have different context
and a conflict of sexuality.
In story of The Boarding House, a conflict of sexuality happens because
of Polly’s daily activities. In story, Mrs. Mooney is mother of Polly. Then,
Mr. Duran is consumer of The Boarding House. I think Mr. Duran is unlucky man
because he had to get married with Polly because of them relationship in
sexuality. According to my opinion, that before Polly has relationship with Mr.
Duran Polly has relationship sexuality with the other consumers at The Boarding
House. Why, could we imagine if Polly lives around men in The Boarding House,
she always-clean rooms every day? I think is commonly relationship can happen
in this section. Even, Mrs. Mooney takes a benefit of Mr. Duran because his
sexuality to Polly. Mrs. Mooney takes a benefit from Mr. Duran because Polly is
pregnant.
Based on my statement above Mr. Duran is unlucky man because he had to
get married with Polly. They are enjoying them relationship of their sexuality.
Mr. Duran enjoys it and Polly too.
In story of The Storm, a conflict of
sexuality happens almost same with “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck.
Bobinot is husband of Calixta. Bobinot never makes Calixta as a girl, but just as
his wife. Alce was boyfriends of Calixta. Because of Calixta never gets her
need from her husband, she gets it from Alce. They are enjoying their
sexuality. This sexuality happens because real of the storm, and storm of
sexuality between Calixta and Alce. This is happens because Bobinot cannot give
need for Calixta about sexuality.
